On Monday we opened 5 new classrooms for Te Whānau Harakeke. The dawn blessing was very special - we really appreciate the hononga|connection we have with Patuharakeke and their support for us in setting tikanga for these important milestones in the life of our kura. The blessing was followed by a celebration of 10 years of Te Whānau Harakeke. In 2014 our first bilingual classroom was started and 10 years later we have 5 classrooms of full immersion learning. We are very proud of this journey. Thank you to all those whānau who came along and to those who stayed to help with the move.
On Wednesday Rooms 11-14 moved out of their rooms and into their new classes. We are excited that Rooms 11 & 12, where learning has a STEAM lens (Science Technology Engineering Art Maths), will have a classroom next door which we are setting up with tools, a lasercutter and a 3D printer (thanks to funding accessed by our librarian Jess,) Exciting times ahead!
Over the holidays Rooms 13/14 will be removed and Rooms 11/12 will begin their transformation into our new staffroom. Our school site will be closed for at least the first week of the holidays while demolition is going on. School reopens on Tuesday 23rd July. We have a Staff Only Day on Monday 22nd July - this allows us to check the safety of the site after the demolition.
I would like to give special appreciation to our architect Sarah Bertie and the Guyco building team led by Mat. They are all really invested in delivering to a really high standard for us. Thanks also to our teachers and support staff - you have all worked so hard this week - I love the way that you work together and support each other.
We are farewelling Mr. Green tomorrow as he heads off to his new position at Ruawai Primary - we will welcome Mr Josh Proud to our team in Week 2 of next term.
Wishing you all a safe and enjoyable term break - see you back on Tuesday 23rd July.
Ngā mihi Helen

We are really fortunate that Becky from Lifewalk will be supporting our kura as a Wellbeing Mentor. She will be available for 4 hours each week to meet with any students who are needing extra support in a low key way to chill or chat. Becky is a chaplain for LifePoint Church. All conversations/sessions will have parent permission prior and no religious aspects will be part of the sessions. If you would like your tamaiti to be able to talk with Becky please contact the office so that we can set that up.
Introducing Becky: It is a privilege to be available to support the students and amazing teachers here . My whānau : I am a grand-mother, wife, and mother of 3 children & 2 mokopuna . I live in the Bream Bay area and have enjoyed this beautiful local area for 17 years.
